Arctic Fire is the passive fire protection division of Arctic Group. We install, maintain and survey fire doors and fire stopping — and we do it under third-party certification, which is a very different thing from saying we are good at it.

Who we are

A fire division inside a group that builds things

Arctic Fire Limited was formed to bring passive fire protection inside Arctic Group, alongside cooling, scaffolding and glazing. That matters more than it sounds: we come from a contracting background, not a consultancy one. Everybody here has fitted something.

We are based at Heathrow — Abbey House, 450 Bath Road, Longford, West Drayton — and we work across London, the Thames Valley and the rest of the UK. A great deal of our work is within a few miles of the office, in airport terminals, corporate campuses and the buildings along the M4 corridor. A good deal more is not: we have surveyed and installed across central London and beyond, and we travel for estate-wide programmes.

What we do splits three ways. We survey fire doors and compartmentation, so that a building owner knows what they actually have. We install and maintain certified doorsets. And we seal the holes — service penetrations, linear joints, cavity barriers and blank openings — under a separate certification scheme for exactly that work.

What we believe

Certified, not self-declared

Anybody can say they install fire doors to standard. Third-party certification means an external body audits whether we do — our procedures, our people, our sites and our records. There are two names on our schemes and both belong to people who are here every day.

Evidence, not assumptions

A compliance position that cannot be evidenced is an opinion. Every doorset we touch is photographed, labelled and recorded against a named standard, so the record survives after we have left the building.

Repair before replace

Where scheme 058 allows a doorset to be repaired to a compliant condition, we repair it. Replacement is expensive and disruptive, and it is not always the right answer. We will tell you which it is.

Named people, not a call centre

Your enquiry goes to fire@arcticltd.com and is answered by one of two Approved Persons. Nobody here reads from a script.

Written by the people who do the work

The guides and FAQs on this site are written and reviewed by the named Approved Persons whose certification is on the line, not by a marketing agency.

Inside the tested scope, always

A certified product installed outside the configuration it was tested in is not certified. We specify against the manufacturer's scope of application and say so when a request falls outside it.

How we work

Live buildings, secure estates, occupied sites

Most of our work happens in buildings that cannot stop. That constraint shapes everything about how we plan a job.

▸

Permits and clearance — Airside passes and permit-to-work control at Heathrow; security-vetted operatives where a client's estate requires it; DBS checks where we work in childcare and education settings. Access arrangements are agreed before a programme is priced, not discovered on site.

▸

Out-of-hours delivery — Overnight and between-event working in terminals, conference venues and stations, broken into shift-sized packages so no area is left part-finished when the building reopens.

▸

Heritage and listed fabric — Conservation constraints treated as a design input. Where a listed doorset can be upgraded rather than replaced, we set out both routes so the client can hold an evidenced conversation with their conservation officer.

▸

Digital asset records — Every asset QR-tagged and recorded in Onetrace, so the building owner holds a live register rather than a PDF that goes out of date the day after it is issued.

Our people

Two Approved Persons, both on site

SG

Stephen Giles

Approved Person — schemes 052 & 058

DipFD · FDE, FDI, FDM qualified

Stephen holds the Diploma in Fire Doors and is the named Approved Person on our fire door installation and maintenance schemes. He signs off the scope of what we will and will not take on under certification, and is usually the person who answers the phone when a survey enquiry comes in.

David Nemes

Approved Person — scheme 05B

Fire stopping installation, groups A–D

David is the named Approved Person for our fire stopping certification, covering all four installation groups. He is responsible for making sure every seal we install sits inside the tested scope of the system it belongs to, and for the technical content published on this site.

Our operatives are competency-assessed under the schemes they work to and hold the site cards, asbestos awareness and access qualifications the work requires. Where a client's estate needs security vetting or DBS clearance, that is arranged before mobilisation.

Photographs of the team and the wider site crews are being added to this page as we collect them.

Certification and assessment

What we hold, and who says so

Our fire safety work is certified by BM TRADA under three Q-Mark schemes on a single certificate, 4515. BM TRADA is in turn accredited by UKAS under accreditation number 0012 — which is the part that makes third-party certification mean something. We are also SafeContractor approved for health and safety.

A note on language, because it is routinely got wrong in this industry: companies are certified; certification bodies are accredited. Arctic Fire is certified by BM TRADA. BM TRADA is accredited by UKAS. Anyone describing themselves as ‘UKAS accredited’ for fire door installation is telling you something that cannot be true.

Four divisions. One trusted group.

Arctic Group

Arctic Group brings four trades under one roof. For clients running a building or a programme of works, that means fire, cooling, scaffolding and glazing can be procured, coordinated and invoiced through one group rather than four supply chains.

Careers

We are always looking for competent people

If you are a fire door fitter, a fire stopping operative or a surveyor who works to a standard and can evidence it, we would like to hear from you.

  • Fire door installers and maintenance operatives — scheme-assessed, or ready to be.
  • Fire stopping operatives across installation groups A to D.
  • Fire door surveyors holding the FDIS Diploma or equivalent, comfortable working in live and secure environments.
  • Airside, security-cleared and DBS-checked operatives are particularly welcome, and we will support the clearances for the right person.

Send a CV and a note about what you have worked on to fire@arcticltd.com, or call 020 8769 8869 and ask for Stephen.

Want to talk to the people who would actually do the work?

No account managers, no call centre. Call 020 8769 8869 and you will get one of the two names on our certificate.
